Travel to Argentina 2024

                                          Raquel and Dario, at the next table at dinner last night.  The breakfast room at my hotel in B.A.  Walking across one of the plazas in B.A. The Congress building of Argentina.  Day 2: Heatwave in B.A. plus rain showers is not pleasant! Where there is air conditioning (restaurants, hotels, shopping areas), it’s a welcome relief from the 99% humidity. Lots of walking = lots of sweating = need to drink lots of water. I bought a ticket for the yellow tourist bus ride around the city. For US$ 30, you get to take the bus around the circuit stopping at 20 different destinations. I hopped off at the Galerias Pacifica, an upscale mall in a beautiful old converted space with frescoes on the ceiling. Had a delicious hamburger and salad for lunch, then back on the bus to scope out the stops that Amanda and I might visit when we’re back in ...

Very hot here. I see lots of shorts on women AND men. One of the beautiful monuments in the city. “The Obelisk,” about 20 min walk from hotel. Entrance to my hotel, actually a home from 1840, now a “boutique” hotel w 6 rooms. Overnight travel from JFK. Arrival in Buenos Aires:  In line for Passport Control, I see a woman I know from Dexter, MI. We were 20’ apart, so spoke over the crowd. She was with her husband and two other couples from Dexter, going to a wedding in Bariloche. It appeared we wouldn’t be crossing paths anywhere in our travels, but still a nice surprise to see a friend. Hotel very nice. Farther from City Center than I would pick again. Run-down sidewalks, just like the D.R. I walked to Ave de Mayo, where AR celebrated independence from Spain in 1812 (?), found lunch at Restaurant Goya. For $10 I had prix fix meal of pork chop, lots of steamed vegetables, bottle of water, and flan for dessert, including 10% tip. Then walked to Plaza de Mayo, up Saenz Peña to Tourist...
